Common mistakes making you fat

5 common mistakes that women make that messes up their hormones and makes them gain more fat:


  1. Under eating. The body can respond to severe calorie restriction as a threat and respond by reducing hormone production to conserve energy. This can affect metabolic rate.

  2. Doing too much cardio Actually, performing too much cardio will put your body in a catabolic state and burn hard-earned muscle. The loss of muscle will not only reduce strength, but it will also slow down your metabolism. If your metabolism slows down too much, you'll have a tough time burning fat.

  3. Not eating enough Protein/Fibre. Protein is essential for muscle recovery and growth and fibre stabilises blood sugar levels. An imbalanced diet can lead to insulin resistance and hormonal imbalances.

  4. Looking at your phone straight away when you wake up and before going to bed. The blue light on your phone disrupts your bodies natural sleep-wake cycle and affects your circadian rhythm which can cause adrenal issues.

  5. Not prioritising yourself/no stress management. High stress can disrupt the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, causing imbalances in cortisol and other hormones. This can cause weight loss resistance.


So whilst a calorie deficit is essential to fat loss, there are many lifestyle and nutrition factors that can inhibit this.
